Wing Spar Ready

After some months of hard work we are starting to get new parts for Mehari's wing. The process to build the molds and to prepare the fabrication toke more time then we predicted - as usual. The molds construction is a "war-task" involving high amounts of composites materials, many chemical compatibility concerns and "truck-like" structures to assure its dimensional stability. Now, we still need to build the ailerons molds, but it is the smaller one and the simply one. With the wing skin and wing spar molds ready we start to prepare our tools to build final parts. At this point the build of the unidirectional rovings impregnation and pulling machine toke the longer time. This machine assure that we will have well impregnated and straight rovings inside the spar. Besides this we had to deal with material providers and commercial issues to have all the material necessary. After this, between Christmans and New Year's day we become ready to build the wing spars cabs. As all the university were in vacation, the Iscolderia Team and my student Gustavo Junqueira helped in this task. Already in 2011, we start to prepare the final preparation of the wing spar construction, where the cabs will be connected to the web shear. now, with all current CEA's team together we try to build it on last Tuesday, but because my misjudging error we failed. But, as usual to CEA:  - No problem, we can solve it! It is important to remember that sometimes it is enough to know how to do, and with this you can find the correct way to do!. One day after after we tried again, now with small corrections, and dividing the whole process in two days of work. Now, success! We still need to do one more step to finish it, but is is just about finishing. The result? 24kg saved in comparison to the wood spar! Now Mehari is becoming to get in shape to do "real" aerobatics.
